“message in a bottle”
Showing March 6 - March 28 2010 at Blend Studio in the Arcade, downtown Nashville, TN. For details about the show and gallery, visit their website.
All work and contents of this website are 2008-2010 Tina Ahyoka.
The gallery installation is made of 999 glass beer and other beverage bottles.
Also showing in the gallery are a variety of my work made from recycled glass bottles.
Here are photos of some of my work in the show:
“999 bottles” - recycled glass bottle installation
“99 bottles” - recycled glass bottle labels
“messagettes” - tiny recycled ginseng herbal extract glass bottles with messages inside, each unique. (I had so much fun making these. Many sold at the opening, but I am making more.
(the backside of the installation)
“half moon” - face cream jar with maple syrup bottles, copper
“tease” - beverage bottle, Sailor Jerry labels, sea shells, cap from a shampoo bottle as the topper
“C-O-R-N” - incandescent spotlight, oil bottle, cornsilk
“lil dragonfly” - ginseng bottles, glass seed beads, plastic coils from a binder, bullet found on a hiking trail
“seven day cycle” - glass medicine bottles that were part of my father’s medical regime (because of his dysfunctional gut and multiple surgeries he had to orally take enzymes and medical fluids to regulate peristalsis)
“coke bottle window” - Coke bottles, decoupage
MESSAGE IN A BOTTLE
Everyone who visits the show can write either a message of hope or write a personal commitment as to how you will be a better steward of the planet through your local community.
All these messages will be individually sealed into a bottle that will be a part of a public art sculpture built at Long Hunter State Park’s Visitor Center in April. Go HERE for more info on the project and how you can get involved.
Thanks Everyone for visiting!
(Side Note:
I will be compiling a list at the end of the month of all the messages and posting them here. Just during the show’s opening night two large juice bottles were stuffed full of messages!)
